1955 & 1956 were the big years for getting the Gladstone plant up and running.  The January 1956 edition of Arvin Folks magazine featured a large story on the plant being built:

In 1955, Arvin built and opened the Gladstone Plant on a plot of land on the southeast side of town.  Gladstone was built to be a modern muffler manufacturing facility, and it maintained that role until Arvin ceased to exist.  In fact, it's still producing mufflers (among other parts) under the Faurecia name.

Gladstone has undergone several expansions to accommodate  different types of production such as catalytic converters and larges truck (Class 8)  emission systems.
